The Studio

Moderate Science is my personal home studio, and is fully-equipped to handle virtually any recording session for solo musicians, small-to-medium groups, voice-over work, audio editing, mixing, and mastering. I've carefully curated a gear locker that can help you make your record the way YOU want to make it.

The primary recording platform at Moderate Science is a computer. However, additional formats are available for recording or transfer projects: ADAT, DTRS, DAT, 4-track cassette, 8-track cassette, stereo cassette, 1/2" analog tape (up to 16 channels), 1/4" analog tape (up to 8 channels), DCC, and ATRAC MiniDisc.

An Alesis HD24 hard disk recording system is available for those who prefer a tape-like workflow during recording, but want to take advantage of non-linear editing on a computer after the session.

Moderate Science boasts an extensive microphone locker, and a collection of modern and vintage gear that can make you sound the way you want without compromising how you work. With the use of SMPTE time code, Modern Science is capable to record up to 48 simultaneous channels of digital audio (most sessions will require 24 or less).

Personalized headphone mixes are provided to clients during recording, so each and every musician can get the mix they need to perform their absolute best. There is also a 1000W PA in the live room, in the event that the talent prefers a more "live" feel in the studio, or to act as a set of monitors if you don't like headphones.

Available in the live room is an 88-key weighted MIDI controller and two outboard synths. An in-house drum kit or in-house amplifiers are available for an additional fee.

Moderate Science is located in a safe, low-traffic neighborhood in Northern Royal Oak minutes away from Woodward Avenue, Downtown Royal Oak, Downtown Clawson, Downtown Birmingham, I-75 and I-696.
